Derby Trailblazers progressed into the semi-finals of the National Cup thanks to a thrilling 82-79 victory over London Leopards on Sunday.

Martyn Gayle led the way with 18 points and helped Derby establish a 71-62 advantage with six minutes remaining.

Leopards hit back to ensure a nervy finale but the visitors held on.

Head Coach Jamie Maudsley said: "We made tough work of it. We gave away too many points in the final five minutes, but it was good to get a win."

He added: "It will do us good in terms of instilling belief, particularly with it being a close game.

"We kept them quiet for a couple of quarters before they hit another couple of big shots late in the game.

"Fortunately, we also had a spell where we got hot from outside. I think we hit three or maybe four straight, simply because we were moving the ball well to create opportunities.

"However, once they got the gap back to nine points, we struggled to score and they gradually got closer and closer, but we just did enough to get a much-needed win."
