Reading Rockets youngsters target silverware

Reading Rockets

Reading Rockets Under-18s assistant coach Ben Fisher says his side are determined to win a trophy this season.

The Rockets have opened their Premier South league season with two wins in their first three games.

"We want to win silverware. We've got elite players and many of them also play for the senior squad." Fisher told BBC Radio Berkshire.

Louis Sayers, Harrison Gamble and Steve Baughncan have all featured in the senior team this season.

Fisher says the Rockets' main objective is not only to develop young talent for the Berkshire side but also to succeed overseas as well.

"We want to produce the best players so they can go on to represent the senior men's team, and then hopefully go on and represent a team in Europe, the United States or even the national teams as well," he said.

"Unfortunately at this moment in time there's not a lot of money in the game in this country. But the British team is slowly but surely developing.

"They've just qualified for the European Championships next year, which is a fantastic achievement and we really hope that we can compete at the Olympics as well.

"So I just hope in the future that basketball grows in this country and we can promote the national teams."
