Leicester Riders have signed former Newcastle Eagles forward Tom Sherlock and re-signed veteran Tony Windless. Sherlock started at hometown club Derby Storm before playing college basketball in the USA and then joining Newcastle. Most recently he was playing for Derby Trailblazers but has been plagued by injuries in the past two seasons. Riders head coach Rob Paternostro told BBC Radio Leicester: "Tom practised with us last year and he said he really wanted to play for the Riders." Meanwhile forward Windless, 40, has signed for another season. Windless has been a useful squad player for Paternostro in the last two seasons and the American is glad to retain him. "He goes in when he's needed and he's a great weapon for us off the bench," Paternostro said. Both players were involved in the pre-season games against a USA Select Touring Side and Derby Trailblazers on Friday and Saturday. Riders won both games, beating the USA 81-41 and Derby 96-59. Leicester begin the new season with a BBL Trophy game against the Essex Pirates at the John Sandford Centre on Saturday, 18 September.
