Guildford Heat have signed centre James Porter and point guard David Schneider for the new BBL season. Porter, 22, joins from North Carolina A&T State while 23-year-old Schneider joins from William and Mary College. Heat coach Creon Raftopoulos told BBC Surrey: "James is a hard-working player and has been brought in mainly for defensive responsibilities. "David is a great three-point shooter which opens up the defence. They will help us a lot this season." He added: "I feel they will fit in with the three British players we've got - Mike Martin, Julius Joseph and Tayo Ogedengbe. "Those six [including other new signing Martelle McLemore], and a couple of extras that we're going to be adding, will make a great team." The Zimbabwean coach has defended the decision to sign players from America who only have college experience. "I had the option to go for experienced pros but I went for young players. Experienced players cost more," he said. "Going for young players helps with the chemistry and helps our young players to work together with them, gel, and build the team."
