Wiggins' Derby finished on top of Division One ahead of the play-offs |
Derby Trailblazers coach Clarence Wiggins said his side has had a remarkable season despite defeat in the Division One championship final. Wiggins told the club website: "As we look back over the season - I have to say it's been fantastic. "We had a number of guys who've come into the team this season and they've worked their socks off for this club and I'm proud of them." His side were beaten 81-72 by Manchester Magic in Sunday's final. The Trailblazers reached the final with relative ease, by beating Bristol Academy Flyers 79-65 in Saturday's semi-final match. Wiggins said: "I'm delighted we got the final, but I'm disappointed we didn't perform better within it and I think every single one of our players thought the same, because they all sat on the sidelines in a sense of disbelief for 15 or 20 minutes after the final buzzer. "They were devastated by the fact they had lost, despite putting in a great effort." The Trailblazers finished top of the EBL Division One before heading into the final fours weekend and Wiggins has been impressed by his side this season. "The chemistry we've had on the team has been terrific and the players have all wanted to work hard for each other. "We've got some really talented individuals on the team, but I think collectively they've come together and produced something that was better still."
