Wiggins' side still top the EBL despite Saturday's loss |
Derby Trailblazers coach Clarence Wiggins admits his side were below par in Saturday's costly defeat against EBL Division One title rivals Leeds. Trailblazers were beaten 83-70 on the road and although they recovered to see off Leicester 73-62 on Sunday, the title is now out of their hands. Derby stay joint-top but the records between the sides could come into play if the teams finish the season level. "We didn't perform but they played really well," Wiggins said. The victory over Leicester on Sunday keeps the Blazers joint-top for the time being. | They kept making their shots and we kept missing. Our shooters didn't score; theirs did and so did their non-shooters so we were never going to win Derby coach Clarence Wiggins |
But Carnegie stand to be crowned champions if the two clubs are involved in a two-way tie at the end of the regular season, by virtue of winning their home game against Derby by more points than the Blazers beat them by at home. "We started the game well, but they made adjustments and we didn't," Wiggins added. "They became a lot more aggressive. I felt whichever five players I put on the floor, we only had two guys who were playing well, so you don't really have a chance when you're up against a unit that's as solid as Leeds. "We tried to make some adjustments at half-time but they still kept making their shots and we kept missing. It's as simple as that. Our shooters didn't score; theirs did and so did their non-shooters so we were never going to win."
