Gayle top-scored for Derby with 28 points |
Derby Trailblazers coach Clarence Wiggins says his side were not given a fair chance in their controversial 115-113 defeat against London Mets. The teams were level at 113-113 in overtime when Derby called a timeout. But after Juju Bola scored for the Mets with a second left, the game resumed without the timeout being granted. "I have never felt like I've been given a fair chance to win in London and I'm sure my players would say the same thing," Wiggins fumed. After the final buzzer, lengthy discussions ensued between the referees, table officials and Derby's coaching staff, but the result was left to stand. | It's about time we had refereeing assessors at every game |
The Trailblazers still top Division One of the EBL with 26 points from 17 games following Saturday's setback. But Leeds Carnegie are second on the same points having played a game more and Manchester and Bristol are also within touch. Wiggins added: "It's about time we had refereeing assessors at every game, because then every team would have a fair chance. As it is, that doesn't always seem to happen." Derby's Martyn Gayle led all scorers with 28 points on the night. The Trailblazers face London Leopards at Noel-Baker School in Derby on Saturday evening as the regular Moorways venue is unavailable.
