Plymouth Raiders finally ended their run of six straight defeats when they beat the Cheshire Jets on Saturday. The Raiders made 17 free throws in the final quarter to hold off a Jets team led by Chez Marks, who had a game high of 30 points. The Jets put behind them any effects of the long journey to Devon with a blistering 16-4 start to the match. But four free throws by Florentino Valencia, and then a strong show from Allister Gall helped boost Plymouth. At the opening of the second quarter, Raiders went 26-20 ahead. Back came the Jets with an 11-2 burst to move 31-28 ahead. Jets quickly tied the match in the third quarter and led 46-44 on a Jerrah Young bucket before a 14-3 run by Raiders gave them a healthy 58-49 lead. Free throws became crucial in the final period as Raiders were repeatedly sent to the line by Cheshire. Matt Hilleary, Anthony Martin, Drew Lasker, Valencia and Anthony Rowe all remained calm to keep Jets no closer than six points (82-76) over the last three minutes of action.
