Noel was in his third season with the Raiders

Plymouth Raiders have released James Noel following a succession of long-term injuries.

Noel had an Achilles problem at the start of the season and then injured his back shortly before Christmas.

Raiders chairman Bob Widdecombe said: "It is a regrettable decision, but one that we feel will allow the development of our younger players."

"We're in the middle of rebuilding the squad and have talked with a number of prospects about next season already."

Noel's departure will allow several fringe players including Jay Marriott, Michal Cyzniek, Mark Gilbard and Shaun Porte to stake a claim for a first-team place.
