Wolves already play at University of Worcester |
Worcester Wolves could be moving to a 2,000 seat all-purpose indoor arena in the near future. The University of Worcester has bought the site of a former fruit and vegetable market to build a new multi-million pound sports centre. University vice-chancellor David Green told BBC Hereford and Worcester: "At the moment we simply do not have enough court provision. "It's used all day and at weekends, so we just do not have enough space." The Wolves currently play in the 500-capacity sports hall at the university's St John's campus. The site in Hylton Road has been derelict for a number of years after various developers failed in their bids to develop the land on the grounds of flood risk. Subject to planning permission, the university will build a multi-purpose arena and indoor sports centre which will have enough space for 2,000 spectators. The university is also in the final stages of acquiring the site of the adjacent former car showroom which will provide a 110-space car park. Green says the new facilities would create opportunities to forge closer links with other sports clubs such as Worcester City, Worcestershire County Cricket Club and Worcester Warriors.
