McKnight is player-coach with Heat

Guildford Heat head coach Chad McKnight believes his side's move to Surrey Sport Park will be a major boost.

The new multi-million pound sporting facility opens next year and will enable the team to train together and play matches under the same roof.

McKnight told BBC Surrey: "All their facilities are Olympic facilities.

"With the three courts and things like that, as far as we go it will be nice to practice where we play, that's big for us."

He added: "You get used to the rims, the atmosphere of the gym, the depth perception behind the basket, and everything like that.

"Once you get used to shooting on the same basket every day, when it comes to games you're really used to it."

McKnight is also pleased to have their own allocated training facilities: "It'll be our gym.

"We'll be practicing there and playing there and it'll be great for guys that are coming up for the team."

The move will see Heat leave Guildford Spectrum - their home venue since formation in July 2005.

"We'll miss the Spectrum because that's all we've known. That's all I've known since I've been here for the four years. I hate to see it go, really." McKnight added.
