Surreys' Chris Adams aims to lure Rory Hamilton Brown
Adams captained Hamilton-Brown at Sussex
Surrey manager Chris Adams is hoping the vision he has for the club will tempt Rory Hamilton-Brown to take up the offer to become his captain.
Sussex have given the 22-year-old all-rounder permission to talk to Surrey about a return to The Oval.
Adams told BBC London 94.9: "I'm hoping to speak to him over the weekend and sell him the vision.
"I know the lad - he's a super talented cricketer and he is a Surrey lad first and foremost."
Hamilton-Brown moved to Hove from Surrey in 2008 and played under Adams when he was captain at Sussex. In total, he has played just eight first-class games.
The off-spinning all-rounder has now been earmarked as a potential captain by Adams as the club look for a long-term replacement for the retired Mark Butcher.
Adams said: "I've set about building foundations at Surrey.
"We've done about three years in one year and the one thing I have identified in losing Mark Butcher is that we need to replace him with a new captain, but a captain who I believe will galvanise this squad and bring the players together.
"If you drew up a list of players out there currently then it's not a massive list and when I did it, Rory's name came right to the very top.
"I think the time is right for me and for him to join together and formulate a partnership which will only grow over time with the squad and see Surrey back to where it needs to be at the top of English cricket."
Although he is well aware of the unrest that his open approach has caused, Adams is certain that Hamilton-Brown has the all the qualities he is looking for in his next captain.
He said: "I think captains are born, and born with certain attributes. They have charisma, the ability to galvanise people, intelligent tactical brains and it's normally somebody that people need to follow.
Here is is an opportunity to not just come back and play at The Oval but to lead the team, to lead the club and fulfil, what I'm hoping, is his lifetime ambition

"I see all of that in Rory. He does have all of those skills and he's a super talented cricketer.
"I'm pretty sure that during my time at Sussex he always talked about maybe going back to Surrey one day.
"Well here is is an opportunity to not just come back and play at The Oval but to lead the team, to lead the club and fulfil, what I'm hoping, is his lifetime ambition."
