Paternostro is in his second term at the helm of the Riders

Leicester Riders head coach Rob Paternostro has admitted the BBL is still an unknown quantity as he faces the start of his second season.

The Riders take on Sheffield Sharks at home in the first game of the campaign on Saturday.

Paternostro told BBC Radio Leicester: "I don't know what to expect again because we have new guys.

"Anytime you bring in new players in, you wonder how they will react to the way our league is played."

Paternostro said pre-season training had gone well and his side were showing signs of being a force to be reckoned with.

"We haven't been together for so long, so we are not so sure what we are yet but what we can be sure of is that we can play hard," he said.

"I like the intensity of our guys and the competitiveness."

The Riders reached the semi-finals of the BBL Championship last season but Paternostro is not getting carried away with hopes for the new term.

"For us to have expectations I think is unfair in the sense that we don't know what the other teams are like.

"You can't tell until you see teams. I have no idea where we're going to be, how we're going to finish or play because there's still so much to be determined."
