Defoe is all set for a sixth season in Eagles colours |
Newcastle Eagles have extended the contract of forward Darius Defoe for a sixth season at the Arena. Defoe, 24, has been a major player in the Eagles' success over the last decade, and coach Fab Flournoy has seen the forward develop with the club. "Darius has been a project for us since day one when he came back in 2004," said the New Yorker. "He has worked hard at his game and has been a fundamental part of our success," Flournoy added. Defoe joins captain Andrew Bridge and the experienced Lynard Stewart in agreeing terms with the Eagles for another season, and Flournoy believes the London-born forward can continue to have an impact on Tyneside. | Darius is the third player we have brought back and the continuity is definitely good for me as a coach |
"Darius had to step up last season when Lynard (Stewart) was injured and it is because of players like him that we were able to cope without an All Star player and MVP like Lynard. Not many clubs could have done that," Flournoy added. "Darius is the third player we have brought back and the continuity is definitely good for me as a coach."
