Plymouth Raiders have signed 6ft 9ins American forward Gerald Robinson to ease their injury woes. Robinson is allowed to join the Raiders as he holds a Dutch passport as well as his American nationality. The club already has its quota of three non-EU players in Drew Lasker, DeAntoine Beasley and Terrence Durham. Robinson, who played in Spain for Oviedo earlier this season, is a graduate of Tennessee-Martin University where he played for two seasons. Provided Robinson's paperwork is received by England Basketball and gets international clearance from Spain in time, he will eligible to play in the Raiders' two matches at the weekend against Worcester Wolves and Cheshire Jets. Robinson's signing comes as the Raiders struggle with injuries. Influential player-coach Beasley is out for at least two months with a dislocated shoulder while Durham has struggled with a knee injury. "He's come out of college with some decent stats," Raiders chief executive Dave Briggs said. | He played at Oviedo in Spain earlier this season, so he's got a little bit of experience of basketball in Europe, but I think he is more naturally suited to the BBL with his style of play Plymouth Raiders head coach Gary Stronach |
"He's got a reputation of being very athletic, with long arms and he likes to get out on the fast break." Robinson should have arrived in Plymouth on Thursday morning but was delayed after bad weather meant he missed his flight from Nashville to Atlanta which meant he missed his connection to London. "I'm really pleased to get Gerald here. He can play at both the forward positions, and I think he'll be a great addition to the team," said head coach Gary Stronach. "He played at Oviedo in Spain earlier this season, so he's got a little bit of experience of basketball in Europe, but I think he is more naturally suited to the BBL with his style of play."
