Lasker scored 33 points for Plymouth, but missed a third of his free throws |
Plymouth Raiders lost to the Worcester Wolves 97-93 on Saturday, ending an seven-game winning streak. The defeat was the Raiders' first against the Wolves in their history. Plymouth started well and were 22-12 ahead in the first quarter but they failed to defend well against the third-highest scoring team in the BBL. They slipped behind in the second quarter and never regained the lead, despite a spirited late comeback which saw them close the gap to three points. Drew Lasker top scored with 33 points for the Raiders while Gaylon Moore had 16 points in the disappointing loss. But the Raiders had numerous chances to close the gap, missing 13 free throws and seeing Worcester score 14 points from free throws. | We've got to move on because we've got a difficult game at Cheshire at the end of the week Plymouth Raiders head coach Gary Stronach |
"You can look back and say if you made five or six more free throws we would have won the game," head coach Gary Stronach told BBC Radio Devon after the match. "We could never get going defensively. They're a high-octane team but it was never in our game plan to give them 97 points. "I'm not going to make any excuses. We didn't play well, we kept it really close, we had our chances and we didn't take their chances." The Raiders were without player-coach DeAntoine Beasley, who had a foot injury, and that had a big impact according to Stronach. "We missed DeAntoine defensively. He's the catalyst on that and he brings the team together a lot of the time. "But we've got to move on because we've got a difficult game at Cheshire at the end of the week," he added.
