Nominees named for sports awards

The nominees for the 2008 BBC South West Sports Awards have been named.

As well as the male and female Sports Personality of the Year awards, the top disability sports person, youngster and unsung hero will also be recognised.

The judging panel includes sports journalists from the region, members of the BBC South West sports team and regional sporting agencies.

The winners will be announced during BBC Spotlight on BBC One from 1830-1900 from the week beginning 1 December.


Male Sports Personality of the Year

Ben Barker - Third in the British under-21 speedway final and senior British finalist.

Tom Daley - Olympian and British and European platform champion

Josh Drauniniu - Exeter Chiefs winger and top try scorer
