The nominees for the 2008 BBC South West Sports Awards have been named.

As well as the male and female Sports Personality of the Year awards, the top disability sports person, youngster and unsung hero will also be recognised.

The judging panel includes sports journalists from the region, members of the BBC South West sports team and regional sporting agencies.

The winners will be announced during BBC Spotlight on BBC One from 1830-1900 from the week beginning 1 December.

Male Sports Personality of the Year

Ben Barker - Third in the British under-21 speedway final and senior British finalist.

Tom Daley - Olympian and British and European platform champion

Josh Drauniniu - Exeter Chiefs winger and top try scorer

Josh Drauniniu is one of National League One's top wingers

Joe Glanfield - silver in the men's 470 Olympics sailing class with Nick Rogers.

Drew Lasker - Plymouth Raiders' top points scorer last season with 589.

David Pipe - trained Comply or Die to win the Grand National.

Jed 'the Jedi' Stone - Reached the final ten at the Masters World Surfing Games in Peru

Kriztian Timar - Plymouth Argyle's Player of the Season

Paul Tisdale - The boss who guided Exeter City back into the Football League

Marcus Trescothick - heavy run scoring helped Somerset to verge of County Championship win

Stuart Yetton - Truro City's top goalscorer

Female Sports Personality of the Year

Sarah Ayton - Gold medallist in Yngling class at Olympics

Michaela Breeze - GB 800m Olympic weightlifter

Tonia Couch - Olympic diver who was eighth in 10m platform

Young Sports Personality of the Year

Heather Watson is the Commonwealth Youth games tennis champion

Katie Knowles - Commonwealth Youth Games athlete in 800m and 1500m.

Rory Warlow - Gold medallist in the Olympic skeet in the Commonwealth Youth Games.
