Midgley joined the Tigers after leaving Newcastle Eagles in December |
Everton Tigers guard Richard Midgley insists the club's aim is to win every competition open to them next season. In their debut year as a professional team, Tigers reached the British Basketball League play-offs. "We're hoping to win everything, the club have brought in a lot of really talented players from England and America," he told BBC Radio Merseyside. "We have high hopes for next season, hopefully we can all gel together and contest for all the trophies." Midgley, 25, has been involved with the Great Britain squad this summer as they aim to qualify for next summer's European Basketball Championships. He is full of praise for the squad, who have lost just once during their qualification campaign. | Obviously you always want to play for your country and I think it will help with Tony being a part of the Everton team Everton Tigers guard Richard Midgley |
"I think each year we are getting better and better, we will keep improving but this is definitely the best team [he has been involved with] so far." Since the last domestic season ended, there have been changes in the management structure at Everton Tigers. Long-time head coach Henry Mooney has moved into a new role as head of operations and youth development. Tony Garbelotto, who assists with the management of Team GB, has been installed as Tigers head coach. Midgley is hoping that if he is able to impress his new club coach it may aid him in his international ambitions. "Obviously you always want to play for your country and I think it will help with Tony being a part of the Everton team. "He can see me all year round and I'm hoping we can have a very successful season with Everton next year."
