Kellogg represented Great Britain in three Olympic Games
Donna Kellogg's hopes of reaching the Yonex-Sunrise BWF Masters finals before retiring ended when she and partner Antony Clark suffered a last-four loss. The duo were beaten 21-13 21-17 in 50 minutes by mixed doubles top seeds Joachim Fischer Nielsen and Christinna Pedersen in Malaysia. The Danish pair had beaten Kellogg and Clark in the final of the Denmark Open. Nielsen and Pedersen will now meet surprise finalists V Diju and Jwala Gutta from India in Sunday's final. Diju and Gutta caused a massive upset when they comfortably defeated Group A winners Robert Mateusiak and Nadiezda Kostiuczyk of Poland 21-19 21-11 in just 30 minutes. The Indian duo had lost their opening Group B match to Kellogg and Clark 21-15 21-16 on Wednesday. The English pair had topped Group B with a 100% record following a 21-15 16-21 21-15 win over Indonesia's Hendra Aprida Gunawan and Vita Marissa in Malaysia. | 606: DEBATE |
Kellogg announced her intentions to retire at the end of 2009, but wanted to bow out with yet another international title. But the clinical Nielsen and Pedersen ensured there would be no fairytale ending for the 31-year-old from Derby. On Thursday the English pair came from a game down to defeat Thailand's Songphon Anugritayawon and Kunchala Voravichitchaikul 18-21 21-16 21-12. There was disappointment for Clark and Nathan Robertson in the men's doubles on Friday as they fell to their third defeat in a row, losing 21-16 21-18 to the Indonesian pair of Gunawan and Alvent Yulianto Chandra. In the women's doubles Jenny Wallwork and Gabby White also lost their third straight match, going down 21-17 21-13 to Malaysia's Chin Eei Hui and Wong Pei Tty.
