Tony Gunawan and Howard Bach of the US upset Indonesia's Candra Wijaya and Sigit Budiarto to win the World Badminton Championship men's doubles. The 13th seeds delighted the home fans with a 15-11 10-15 15-11 victory.
It is the first ever medal at a world championships for the US and the second in three championships for Gunawan, who used to compete for Indonesia.
Indonesia's Olympic champion Taufik Hidayat won the men's singles; China's Xie Xingfang won the women's singles.
Hidayat overcame Chinese top seed Lin Dan 15-3 15-7 to become the first man to hold the world and Olympic titles at the same time. Xie, Lin's girlfriend, beat defending world and Olympic champion Zhang Ning 11-8 9-11 11-3. It was Xie's fifth victory in her last six matches against Zhang.
Nova Widianto and Lilyana Natsir gave Indonesia their first mixed doubles gold medal in 25 years after beating China's Xie Zhongbo and Zhang Yawen 13-15 15-8 15-2.
The result capped a great week for the Indonesian team in Anaheim, and underlined a disappointing return for the Chinese team, who had been expected to dominate.
