England's Aamir Ghaffar shocked Olympic silver medallist Shon Seung Mo 15-1 15-7 to reach the third round of the World Badminton Championships. Ghaffar will next play Denmark's second seed Kenneth Jonassen, while in the women's event, England's Tracey Hallam beat Canada's Anna Rice 13-10 11-3.
"It's got to be my best win yet," said Ghaffar, the English number one.
"He had no answer to my straight smash. Maybe the fact we now have our own Korean coach was the secret."
In the mixed doubles, Britain's Olympic silver medallists Nathan Robertson and Gail Emms gifted a walkover to Songpol Anukritayawan and Kulchala Worawichitchaikul.
Eighth seeds Robert Blair and Natalie Munt beat Americans Khan Bob Malaythong and Mesinee Mangkalakiri 15-6 15-3.
And England's 13th seeds Anthony Clark and Donna Kellogg triumphed 15-4 10-15 15-3 over Hong Kong's Albertus Susanto Njoto and Li Wing-mui.
In the men's doubles, England's David Lindley and Kristian Roebuck lost 15-11 13-15 15-7 to Poland's 16th seeds Michal Logosz and Robert Mateusiak.
English women's pair Liza Parker and Suzanne Rayappan also went out 15-2 15-1 to fourth seeds Lee Kyung Won and Lee Hyo Jung of Korea.
