England's Tracey Hallam booked her place in the last eight of the women's singles at the World Badminton Championships in Anaheim, California. Hallam, the seventh seed, beat New Zealand's Rebecca Bellingham 11-7 13-10.
In the men's singles, England's Aamir Ghaffar lost to Danish second seed Kenneth Jonassen in the third round.
Ghaffar, who knocked out Olympic silver medallist Shon Seung Mo on Wednesday, was beaten 15-2 15-4 by the Dane.
There was more injury woe for the England team when Robert Blair had to pull out of the mixed doubles with a stress fracture of the right shin.
He and partner Natalie Munt were the eighth seeds in the event.
Donna Kellogg and Gail Emms were beaten in the quarter-finals of the women's doubles, losing 15-7 15-10 to top seeds Yang Wei and Zhang Jiewen of China.
Kellogg and Anthony Clark then lost to sixth seeds Lee Jae Jin and Lee Hyo Jung of Korea 15-8 15-10 in the mixed doubles.
