Stokes won the Champion of Champions title in Sri Lanka in July

Cornwall's Alan Stokes is through to the second round of the Canary Islands' Santa Pro Surf event.

The Newquay surfer progressed through the first round with a score of 11.50.

Stokes will now be up against Australian surfers Nick Riley and Julian Wilson, and Brazilian Neco Padaratz in round two.

Fellow Newquay surfer Oli Adams failed to make it out of round one, coming third in his heat behind Mitchel Colborn and Marlon Lipke.

The two Cornish surfers are the only representatives from Great Britain at the event.
