Alderney is hoping to send more than 50 competitors to the next Island Games in the Isle of Wight in 2011. The final number travelling will be dependent on the success of fundraising efforts, as costs could run to as much as £30,000. Alderney Island Games Association president Michael Ellen said: "We are looking to send representatives in a number of sports." That would include eight golfers, four tennis players and a football team. If the money is raised it would be the first time since 2003, when the games were held in Guernsey, that the island sent a football side to the biennial event.
