Hedley Ablitt is leading the field after the first round of the 36 hole Garenne Seniors Island Championship. Ablitt carded a scratch score of 74 on the La Grande Mare course, edging ahead of Laurence Graham on countback. One shot behind the leading pair are Kevin Buckley and John Wellfair, who both ended the first round on 75. Di Hudson is out in front in the women's competition, scoring 79 in round one, with Sue Wellfair just one shot behind in second place. The best handicap score on day one went to Dave Marshall who recorded 59 nett, while Rose Adcock was the top performing woman, carding 63 nett.
