Jersey Badminton

Jersey's badminton team lost to Kent in Division Two of the National Counties League on Sunday.

In Jersey's only home game of the season the visitors won 12-3 at the New Gilson Hall.

The island side were missing their top two men Mark Constable and Chris Cotillard as well as Kim Ashton who were playing at the Hampshire Open.

Jersey made a promising start with the score at 2-2 after the singles before Kent pulled away.

On paper it doesn't look too encouraging but it was a very tight and close fought match

Seven of the 15 matches matches went to a deciding third set with the visitors winning six of them.

Despite the loss Ian Coombes-Goodfellow from the Jersey Badminton Association was proud of the team's effort.

"On paper it doesn't look too encouraging but it was a very tight and close fought match," he said.

"Certainly everyone of the team gave 110%."

Jersey travel to Suffolk next weekend for their fourth match of the season and will be looking for a win to cement third position.

Team to play Suffolk: Gavin Carter (Capt), Colin Hardwich, Jon Southern, Alex Hutchings, Kerry Coombs-Goodfellow, Lindsey Woodward, Cara McGinnigle and Kim Ashton.
