Guernsey's mixed 'A' team retained their touch rugby title |
A closely fought 5-4 win over Spain gave Guernsey's 'A' team the mixed title at last weekend's Mainland Cup held in Heidelburg, Germany. Guernsey Touch took two mixed teams to the two-day tournament which was attended by 10 European nations. The Mixed 'A' retained their mixed title, having won it in 2007, while Mixed 'B' finished fourth. "We can build for the winter, ready for the European Championship in Bristol," said sport chair Katrina Bray. "We were unsure how well we would do at this year's tournament. The line-up of our teams had changed dramatically, so it's outstanding that we have returned with the trophy," she added. "As the sport has grown in Guernsey, the reliance on non-locals to bolster the team has reduced and we now have a very stable team which we can build upon."
