Cyclist Mark Cavendish and snowboarder Zoe Gillings were named the 2008 Isle of Man sportsman and sportswoman of the year in Douglas last week. Cavendish, 23 retained the award he shared last year with Enduro star David Knight and picked up his award to a standing ovation. Zoe Gillings also retained the sportswoman of the year award after a highly successful World Cup series. Gillings said: "I'm delighted to have my achievements recognised at home." She added: "It's been a great year and to know the Manx people are behind me is a very special feeling." The British number one also received the British Olympic Association trophy for her outstanding performances in the World Cup series, which left her ranked fifth in the world.
