Tassy Swallow will compete alongside girls four years older than her

Cornish surfer Tassy Swallow has been called up to the Great Britain under-18s surfing team.

The 14-year-old from St Ives is the youngest member of the squad which will compete at the 2009 World Surfing Championships in Ecuador.

"It's the best thing that's happened to me so far this year," she told BBC Radio Cornwall.

"There's a lot of other girls who are a lot older than me so it's good to have earned myself a place there."

Swallow is the reigning British under-14 champion and has been surfing around the world in the past few months including Hawaii and Portugal.
