Australia defeat GB in Test
Australian scorer Troy Elder
Troy Elder opened the scoring for Australia
A goal by Teddington's Rob Moore on his Test debut was not enough to prevent Great Britain slipping to a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Australia in Slough.

Troy Elder put the visitors ahead early on when he took advantage of Guy Fordham's error, and Travis Brooks soon doubled their lead.

Moore gave Britain hope with a goal on 26 minutes but Michael McCann netted Australia's third before the break.

Simon Mason's fine goalkeeping stopped Australia winning by a bigger margin.

After the match, GB coach Jason Lee admitted the better side had won, but insisted it had been a worthwhile match as it gave him a chance to try out new tactics.

"The score is not a bad reflection of the game. They could have scored some more goals but so could we," he said.

"Australia are probably the best team in the world this week after beating Germany, while this was our first game since the Olympic qualifier in Madrid in March.

"The guys played well in certain phases."

The two sides meet again at Cannock on Saturday in the opening match of the Tri-nations tournament, which also features Pakistan.
