Laurence Docherty has turned his back on Scotland |
Former Scotland hockey star Laurence Docherty has been included in Holland's pre-Olympic squad. The Dutch Hockey Board, KNHB, said: "If all goes well Laurence Docherty will get the Dutch nationality in time to go with Holland to Athens.
"Therefore he is added to the first selection. The process of getting the document is already under way."
Docherty was selected for the GB squad last September but made it clear he did not want to play for the home nations.
The midfielder was overlooked for GB selection for the Sydney Olympics four years ago and that appeared to convince him his future lay elsewhere.
24-year-old Docherty has lived in the Netherlands for the last three years and should have had to serve a three-year qualification period following his switch of nationality.
However, he hoped to circumvent all the red tape by securing agreements from the British Olympic Association, International Olympic Committee and the International Hockey Federation.
