Brett Garrard will captain Great Britain at the Olympics |
Reading duo Jonty Clarke and Rob Todd are among four players who have been released from Great Britain's hockey squad preparing for the Olympic Games. Andy West of Cannock and Guildford's Jason Collins have also been left out of the training squad.
"All athletes have trained extremely hard," said GB coach Jason Lee.
"But we have to reduce the numbers as quickly as possible to develop a close-knit team to give us the greatest chance of success in Athens."
Lee added: "This is just the first stage of selection and, obviously, further athletes will be disappointed as we progress through the programme."
Great Britain play a tri-nations tournament against Australia and Pakistan next month before a five-Test tour of Argentina in the build-up to the Olympics.
Lee must give the British Olympic Association the list of his final squad for the Athens Games by 30 June.
