James Gibson is hoping to add Olympic gold to his World title

"It's a team full of fighters. They will fight to the death when we get to Athens," said Sweetenham, after the trials at Ponds Forge in Sheffield.

"The team has set high standards for themselves but they can achieve those."

Mark Foster is the squad's most high-profile absentee after failing to reach the 50m freestyle qualifying time.

Foster out of Athens

Foster, who won a silver medal at last year's World Championships, was aiming to compete in his fifth Olympic Games.

Sweetenham urged those selected for the Olympics not to rest on their laurels.

"There's now 16 weeks to go until the Olympic Games and there is still a lot of work that needs to be done," he said.

"We're stronger in some events than we are in others but we will be the best prepared and the most professional swim team in Athens."
