Loveridge won gold at the 2007 Island Games on her 13th birthday |
Guernsey dominated the table tennis inter-insulars by winning 14 out of 19 individual events, and all but two of the team matches. Alice Loveridge claimed three singles titles and two doubles to help Guernsey secure the Horace Mallett Memorial Trophy by a record 88 games to 22. The 13-year-old's only upset was a surprise loss to Jersey's Josh Band and Chris Corfield in the Under-18 doubles. Jersey's Craig Gascoyne won the men's singles trophy, beating Garry Dodd 4-1. President of the Jersey Table Tennis Association Chris Band said he was disappointed with the overall result even though it was "totally expected". He added: "I am sure that next year with the inter-insular in Jersey the results will be much much closer." Guernsey development officer Becks O'Keefe said one of the weekend's highlights was the standard of play in the junior events.
