Purchase will not race with gold winning partner Mark Hunter for a year
Olympic gold medallist Zac Purchase wants to defend his lightweight double sculls title in London in 2012.
The 22-year-old from Tewkesbury won Great Britain's first lightweight Olympic rowing medal when he and partner Mark Hunter won in Beijing.
"There's a lot to do but fingers crossed I'll be there," he told BBC Hereford and Worcester.
"I think I'd quite like defending a title as opposed to being in a different category."
Purchase, who attended Kings School in Worcester, has described the whole Olympic experience as "phenomenal" and was especially pleased with his gold medal performance.
"It's history there and it's not every day you get to say you've made a little bit of history," he said.
Since returning from Beijing, Purchase has been busy doing promotional work and he says he is making the most of the break from training.
"It's been pretty busy but I have enjoyed every minute of it. But give it a few weeks and I'll be back out on the water getting up early, come rain wind or snow."
