Jersey badminton star Elizabeth Cann was knocked out of the European Championships when she lost in straight sets to top seed Hongyan Pi.

The Frenchwoman beat Cann 21-12 21-17 in Thursday's third round tie.

Cann, who was seeded 16th, managed to keep Pi on court for longer than any player so far at the championships as their game lasted 39 minutes.

She had previously defeated Germany's Janet Koehler and Belgium's Nathalie Descamps to secure her last-16 tie.

The three-times national champion helped England win silver in the European Team Championships earlier this week.
