In then second round, she defeated Belgium's Nathalie Descamps 21-12, 21-16 in 28 minutes. Cann now faces the tournament number one seed Hongyan Pi of France in Thursday's third round. | I am trying to concentrate on the tournaments and not really think, 'Oooh Olympics', so I can focus on the match |
Cann told BBC Radio Jersey: "The first set was pretty neck and neck, then I got into my stride and didn't really look back from there to be honest." The three-times English champion was a member of the squad which won the silver medal in the team event. Cann is ranked 25 in the world and currently leads the women's singles table on the Badminton Europe circuit. She needs to be ranked in the top 16 to gain automatic selection for the Olympics and realises the importance of playing well in this tournament. Cann said: "I have to do well in this to still be in with a shot. I've got one more tournament after this so I am trying to concentrate on the tournaments and not really think, 'Oooh Olympics', so I can focus on the match."
