Jersey badminton star Elizabeth Cann won the women's singles title at the Finnish International Championships on Sunday in convincing style. She beat Sara Persson of Sweden in the final 21-12, 21-17, after just 35 minutes of play. The number two seed beat China's Li Wenyan in the quarter-finals and Maria Christina of Indonesia in the semis. Cann, who is the current England champion, next plays at the European Mixed Team Championships on 12 April. Jersey youngster Mariana Agathangelou was also competing in Helsinki but did not enjoy as much success. She was knocked out in the quarter-finals of the women's doubles with Gabriella White. She also bowed out of the mixed doubles competition in the second round with partner Dean George, losing to the eventual winners.
