Guernsey athlete Dale Garland has said he hopes he can make the Olympic qualifying standard while running for Great Britain at the European Cup.

Garland is competing in the 400m hurdles at Annecy later this month.

He told BBC Radio Guernsey: "Hopefully there'll be four or five guys all running around the Olympic 'A' standard and that'll spur me on.

"I want to beat those guys, it's going to be the kind of competition you need to be in to run fast."

Garland is the fastest British man over the event this year with a time of 50.54 seconds but he is still more than one second off the 'A' standard time of 49.20.

The European Cup takes place in Annecy on 21 and 22 June.
