Garland says the island environment helps athletes (Getty) |
Guernsey 400m runner Dale Garland says the island gives sports people advantages they would not normally get. Garland easily won the 400m at Wednesday's Fortis Gold Series meeting as he prepares for the Olympic trials. "Without being from Guernsey and the small environment we have here a lot of our sports people wouldn't be getting the help they are getting," he said. Garland, who has raced for GB at the last two world indoor championships, was half a second off his best. "I'm sure we'll get more and more people pushing onto the Commonwealths firstly and then pushing onto the world stage like the Olympics," he added on BBC Guernsey after his win.
