Godfrey striving for double gold

Archer Larry Godfrey is confident he can bring back two gold medals from the Beijing Olympics.

The 32-year-old told BBC Points West that he has never been more ready for a shoot than he is for China.

"I definitely feel inside that this is the best I have been prepared for any tournament, so that's got to be good news," the Bristol-based star said.

"I'm going to give it 100% and see what happens. There's no reason why I can't win two golds."

He added: "I'm going there with no expectations, just to do my thing and let the training take over."

Godfrey is part of a six-man British squad travelling to China and will compete in both individual and team events.

With just a few days to go before he flies east, the Gloucestershire bowman says his hectic schedule means training has not been hit by the disappointing English summer.

"We've had such a busy year that we haven't really been here. When we come back it's just ramping it up for the next trip. I've been really lucky," he said.

Godfrey announced his arrival at the top level of international archery when he finished fourth at the Athens Olympics three years ago.

Since then, he has been one of the world's leading performers, but more recently has remodelled his style and his scores have suffered as a result.
