Eight of Britain's Olympic archery hopefuls are in the Dominican Republic for the first of five World Cup events. Alan Wills, who won World Cup Grand Final bronze in Dubai last year, is joined by Larry Godfrey, Simon Terry and Tom Barber in the men's recurve. Alison Williamson, Naomi Folkard, Emma Downie and Charlotte Burgess make up the women's recurve team. The remaining events take place in Croatia, Turkey and France, with the Grand Final in India in October. | 606: DEBATE BBC Sport's Peter Scrivener |
All eight of the British recurve archers reached the second round of British Olympic qualifying at Lilleshall over Easter weekend, and the World Cup events will be used as a form guide ahead of the Beijing Games. British team manager Hilda Gibson said: "The prestige of qualifying for the Grand Final is a terrific prize to aim for, but the reality is that this is Olympic year, and this week is another step towards Beijing. "There is a lot at stake for the recurves, with three Olympic places to compete for in the men's and women's teams." Russia's Baljinima Tsyrempilov is the defending men's recurve champion, while India's Dola Banerjee is the women's recurve title holder. In the compound competition, Nicky Hunt will be looking to continue her good run of form, after picking up a bronze medal in the European Indoor Championships in Turin in March.
