Powell has gone fast enough to represent Guernsey in Delhi 2010

Guernsey swimmer Ian Powell has won bronze in the 200m butterfly at the British Swimming Championships.

Powell, who swims for the Beau Sejour Barracudas club, finished in a time of one minute 58.66 seconds to set a new Guernsey record for the event.

The former Florida State University swimmer was just under two seconds behind the winner Michael Rock.

The time was quick enough to meet the qualification standards for next year's Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India.

Powell swam in the 50m, 100m, and 200m butterfly as well as as the 100m and 200m backstroke at the last Commonwealth Games in Melbourne 2006.
