Miley beat Yana Klochkova's nine-year-old record in Sheffield |
Hannah Miley set a new European record in winning the 200m individual medley at the British Swimming Championships. The 19-year-old, who was sixth in the 400m medley at the Olympics, surprised herself with a speedy breaststroke leg to finish in two minutes 09.59 seconds. "I've been working on my breaststroke all my life - it was my worst stroke when I was younger," said Miley. Ellen Gandy set a new British record in the 100m butterfly, while Liam Tancock lowered his 100m backstroke record. The Loughborough swimmer, 23, overcame a back injury to beat Marco Loughran in a time of 53.20 seconds. "I was just walking around my flat about an hour before I came to Sheffield and I just turned my back," he said. "I was so ready to race, I was so fired up but these things happen. You've just got to get over it and get in and race hard. "And I did that - my best time, a British record and a World Championship place - you can't ask for too much more." Gandy, 17, booked her place at the World Championships when she beat Fran Halsall in 57.49 seconds to eclipse Jemma Lowe's mark set in the same Sheffield pool last year. | 606: DEBATE BBC Sport's Karen Pickering |

Michael Rock was on British record pace in the 200m butterfly but failed to hold on and finished outside Stephen Parry's mark in 1:55.68. Double Paralympic champion Eleanor Simmonds lowered her 400m freestyle world record in the S6 classification, touching in 5:31.44 and took the gold medal with 1092 points. Heather Frederiksen also lowered her S8 world record in the heat for the 400m freestyle with a time of 4:45.67, but finished in silver in the final.
