Couch dived at last summer's Olympics in Beijing |
Plymouth divers Tonia Couch and Brooke Graddon are both aiming for gold at the British Diving Championships. The pair go head-to-head in the individual 10m platform on Friday, with Graddon the reigning champion. With two places available for the World Championships later this year the duo are hoping to push each other along. "There's always rivalry on the day of the competition but we're like best friends and we always cheer each other on," Graddon told BBC Radio Devon. Couch dives in the 10m synchro pairs on Thursday, but with no World Championship place at stake until May in that event she is focussing on the individual championships. She is set to debut her newest dive, an inward three-and-a-half somersault, at Ponds Forge, in Sheffield. "I learnt it just before Christmas, so really it sounds a long time but that is such a short time," said Couch. "We've been doing our dives for over three years and they're still not always going right so I have learnt it in a short amount of time."
