Paul Brewster appeared to land a punch on John Gildea |
Paul Brewster looks certain to line out for Fermanagh against Down in Sunday's Ulster Football semi-final but his place in the county's next match remains in doubt.
Monday's meeting of the Games Administration Committee did not view footage of an incident in Fermanagh's win over Donegal where Brewster appeared to punch John Gildea.
However, a Croke Park official pointedly told the BBC Sports website that the issue "probably will be looked at in the future".
"Any suspension that might arise would date from the player's last match," added the spokesman.
Therefore in the same way that Gavin Devlin lined out for Tyrone in the drawn Ulster match against Derry, Brewster will start on Sunday knowing that he could be facing a suspension.
The GAC's next meeting is scheduled for 30 June and it's likely that the video evidence will be viewed then.
On Monday, Fermanagh chairman Joe McGurn told the BBC that the county had not received any communication from Croke Park on the issue.
The case has been blown out of all proportion |
This appeared to suggest that the issue was unlikely to be investigated but Croke Park's comments could now be a cause of concern for Fermanagh boss Dominic Corrigan.
However in public at least, Corrigan appeared confident that the GAC would not take any action against the midfielder.
"The case has been blown out of all proportion," Corrigan told the BBC on Tuesday afternoon.
"The ref saw the incident, Paul swung back the arm, the ref spotted it, dished out a yellow card and that was the end of it".
Fermanagh, meanwhile, have a number of injury worries ahead of Sunday's Ulster semi-final.
Kieran Donnelly missed the win over Donegal because of an ankle injury and he limped out of a club game on Friday night while attempting a comeback.
Justin Gilheaney was also absent against Donegal and is unlikely to be fit enough to start against Down.
On the plus side, Tom Brewster has resumed full training and should be fit to start after missing the game against Donegal because of a hamstring injury.
Meanwhile, Donal Curtis of Meath and Seamus O'Hanlon of Louth have both received 12-week bans following sending-offs in the games against Westmeath and Dublin on 1 June.
