Shane Mulholland previously played Irish League football |
Shane Mulholland has returned to the Down football panel.
The forward has not lined out for Down since the All-Ireland Qualifier defeat by Armagh in the summer of 2001.
He did attend a number of training sessions in the autumn but was then not selected in Paddy O'Rourke's initial panel.
However, the Down boss has evidently decided that Mulholland's experience and ability will be useful to the squad.
A lack of match fitness means Mulholland is unlikely to figure against Cavan this weekend.
Down's remaining NFL games will be against Kildare and Meath while the county's Ulster Championship opener is against either Armagh or Monaghan on 8 June.
The Mourne county have earned only three points from their opening four NFL games but they have shown promise in the campaign so far.
Sigerson commitments
Meanwhile, Andrew McCann and John Toal will be available for Armagh's NFL game against Tyrone at Omagh on Sunday.
McCann missed last weekend's win over Roscommon because of 'flu while Toal has recovered from injury.
Like several intercounty managers, Joe Kernan's hand could be weakened by this weekend's Sigerson Cup.
Kernan has players in all three northerners hopefuls.
Meanwhile, Tyrone's Kevin Hughes is likely to miss the game although his injury is not as bad as first feared last weekend.
Hughes was stretchered off against Donegal with a neck injury.
Declan McCrossan will also miss the Omagh game because of a hamstring strain while Cormac McAnallen may again be ruled out because of a knee injury.
Sean McCague was annoyed by the Dara O Se case last year |
Meanwhile a proposal that only provincial councils will be able to clear intercounty players sent off in club fixtures will be heard at next month's annual congress in Belfast.
The recommendation has been drafted by the Games Administration Committee following the controversial Dara O Se case last year.
On that occasion, the Kerry county board controversially overturned a sending off which allowed the player to line out in the All-Ireland semi-final against Cork.
The GAC proposals will also separate club and county suspensions for various non-serious offences which are two week and one month bans.
Bans for serious misdemeanours such as interference with match officials, striking with the hurley or head, kicking and stamping will continue to apply across the board.
The recommendations would also mean that straight red-card offences would rule players out of the next game in the same competition - irrespectively of the time gap involved.
Meanwhile, Kerry boss Paidi O Se has dropped corner-backs Marc O Se and Tom O'Sullivan for Sunday's NFL game against Donegal.
Liam Hassett, Paul Galvin and Ronan O'Connor have been called into the Kerry team.
Cork have made one change for the game against Dublin with Jim O'Donoghue coming in for the injured Bernie Collins.
Dublin have injury concerns over Ciaran Whelan and Tomas Quinn.
