GAA clamp down on counties
Sean McCague's successor as GAA president will be Kerry man Sean Kelly
Sean McCague was annoyed by the Dara O Se case last year

The GAA are set to introduced measures which will restrict the ability of county boards to adjudicate on controversial disciplinary matters.

The move follows the Dara O Se case last summer when the Kerry county board overturned the player's sending off in a club game, enabling the midfielder to line out against Cork in the All-Ireland Football semi-final.

On several occasions in recent years, county boards have acted to overturn sending-offs or water-down referee reports which would have prevented players from lining out in big games.

On a number of occasions, GAA president Sean McCague stepped in to prevent this happening but a loophole in the rules, prevented him from getting involved in the O Se case.

McCague and the GAA's Games Administration Committee chairman are expected to reveal the new proposals on Tuesday.

These may also include attempts to prevent anomalies concerning suspensions.

Allstar hurling trip

On a number of occasions in recent years, players involved in the second All-Ireland semi-finals have been at a disadvantage in that a sending off ruled them out of the decider.

Players sent off in the opening All-Ireland semi-final have often escaped because of the time ban system.

Meanwhile, next years Allstars hurling tour will be in Phoenix, Arizona.

Both the 2002 and 2003 hurling All Stars will travel and play an exhibition game in Phoenix in the last week of January.

This is the fourth tour since the tour concept was revived.

The footballers visited Dubai in 2000 and San Diego this year, while the hurlers travelled to Argentina in 2001.

Meanwhile, Kilkenny star DJ Carey could miss up to four NHL games after he broke a finger in a challenge match against Birr last weekend.
