Mediocre Derry defeat Waterford
Mickey Moran's team play Carlow next week
Mickey Moran's Derry team hit 18 wides against Waterford

Waterford 2-5 1-15 Derry

Derry hit 18 wides but were still able to claim a seven-point victory against Waterford at Dungarvan.

After a mediocre display in the first half, Derry were fortunate to lead 0-8 to 1-3 at the interval.

Waterford also missed a number of chances and should have scored more goals than Mark Carr's injury-time effort.

However, Benny Murray's goal early in the second half put further daylight between the teams.

Paddy Bradley was again Derry's best forward although he was guilty of missing a number of chances.

Derry started without full-forward Dermot Dougan and Padraig O'Kane who both failed fitness tests before the game.

Manager Mickey Moran admitted that his side had not been impressive.

"It wasn't a good performance but it was good to get the victory," said Moran.

"Waterford probably should have been ahead at half-time but they only lost by four points to Division leaders Wexford so they are not a bad side".

Monaghan 0-10 1-9 Longford
Monaghan suffered their third defeat in four NFL games with Longford claiming a deserved victory at Clones.

The home team led by two points early on but Longford fought back to lead 0-6 to 0-5 at the interval.

Longford continued to dominate in the third quarter and great work by Paul Barden set up Liam Keenan for the crucial goal.

Pauric Davis and Niall Sheridan also tagged on further points for the visitors.

Monaghan fought back in the closing stages but Longford had done enough by that stage.

Offaly 1-9 1-9 Antrim

Only 500 spectators watched Antrim produce a battling performance to earn a draw against Offaly at Tullamore.

Paudie Mulhare's first half goal helped the Midlanders to a 1-4 to 0-6 lead at the interval.

Wing-back Sean Kelly scored Antrim's goal in the second half but the Saffrons needed two late points from Kevin Brady to tie the match.

The win leaves PJ O'Hare' side with three points from their opening four NFL games in Division 2A.
