Raymond Gallagher's 45th minute goal was crucial for Fermanagh |
Kildare 0-9 2-8 Fermanagh
Goals from Ryan Keenan and Raymond Gallagher helped Fermanagh claim a battling win over Kildare in the Allianz NFL Division 1B game at Newbridge.
The win was Fermanagh's third successive win over the Lilywhites.
Keenan hit the net in the 10th minute although Kildare recovered to lead 0-6 to 1-2 at the interval.
Gallagher's crucial second goal was superbly set up by Stephen Maguire while the impressive Keenan was also involved in the move.
The win gives Fermanagh four points from their opening four NFL games.
Cavan 1-16 0-11 Mayo
Cavan produced an energetic display to comfortably defeat a disappointing Mayo side at Breffni Park. With Larry Reilly and Dermot McCabe looking extremely sharp, Cavan led 0-4 to 0-2 after 20 minutes.
Sean Maguire should have scored a Cavan goal shortly before half-time but the home side still led 0-7 to 0-3 at the break.
Cavan bossed the third quarter and led 0-13 to 0-6 with 15 minutes left.
Mayo then hit four unanswered points to cut Cavan's lead to three points but substitute Jason O'Reilly's goal four minutes from time sealed the Breffni county's victory.
Laois 0-17 2-11 Down
Brian McDonald's point with the last kick of the game meant Paddy O'Rourke's Down had to be content with a share of the spoils in Portlaoise. Down mixed some superb play with moments of lethargy during the contest although Ronan Sexton's injury-time point seemed certain to have earned the Mourne County victory.
The visitors made a fast start with Shane Ward rattling in a third minute goal.
Centre half-forward Michael Walsh was in fine form for Down in the opening half when his contribution included a couple of points.
However, seven first half frees from Damien Delaney left Laois a point ahead at the interval - 0-10 to 1-6.
Down restored their lead in the third quarter thanks to points from Walsh and Michael McCrickard.
However, the northerners then went to sleep somewhat and Laois led by three points with eight minutes of normal time left.
Down then woke from their slumber with a Walsh point and a Benny Coulter goal putting them back in the lead.
In the closing minutes, both team missed chances which could have ensured victory.
Sexton's point in the first minute of injury-time appeared to have settled the issue but McDonald's late intervention secured the draw.
